The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is THIS weekend!

Yes…February 15,16,17 2014!

Nearly one mile of arts, food and fun, the Festival is held annually in the streets of Coconut Grove, Florida – a charming village within the city of Miami. The Festival is located just south of downtown Miami, adjacent to beautiful Biscayne Bay. It runs along the streets of McFarlane Road, South Bayshore Drive and Pan American Drive.

Don’t forget, admission for Coconut Grove residents in the 33133 zip code is $5 per person per day (proof of residency required)

Festival Hours: Gates open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m.

Admission: General admission is $15 per person per day.

Free Admission: Children 12 and under, Metrorail Golden Passport and Patriot Passport holders.

Big business for Recreational Boating AND for Real Estate

The 2014 Miami International Boat Show premiers this Thursday, February 13. Last year 36% of attendees were from outside Florida, that’s about 36,762 visitors. This year the figure will be higher, and many will be as interested in purchasing boats as they are in purchasing real estate.  Here are some interesting facts about the event’s impact in our community.

Save the Date: 3rd Annual Gables Bike Day

Save the Date for the 3rd annual Gables Bike Day, Sunday October 20, 2013 from 11am – 6pm.

Gables Bike Day is a family, cyclist, skater, pedestrian friendly event aimed at promoting healthy activities in Downtown Coral Gables. All proceeds will benefit Bike Walk Coral Gables, a non profit organization promoting transit use, bicycling, running and walking for daily transportation, leisure and fitness.

Activities include:

  • Children’s play areas featuring bounce houses, climbing wall, face painting, tattoos, clown, etc.
  • Nonprofit and educational booths providing cycling information, materials, helmets and lights at Community Zone
  • Hourly bike tours (historic, landmark, open house, etc.) of Coral Gables conducted by our knowledgeable staff
  • Free bike valet stations set up at two convenient locations on the event route
  • Food vendors from local participating restaurants with daily specials and outdoor seating
  • Bike Polo exhibition games by Miami Bike Polo
  • VIP tent with food and beverages and special giveaways for sponsors, invited guests and celebrities
  • Two live bands at the stage on the west side of Miracle Mile
  • Bike Showcase with product display’s, free bikes to borrow and bike mechanics

 

The streets of Miracle Mill will be closed to auto traffic.

July 4th Fireworks Celebration!

Colorful fireworks will fill the night skies over Coral Gables this July 4th. The City of Coral Gables, the Biltmore Hotel, University of Miami and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, along with several corporate citizens, have collaborated to sponsor this year’s event. The celebration will include a special concert by the Greater Miami Symphonic Band, concessions, patriotic mascots, and a spectacular fireworks display.  Rhiannon Ally the current co-anchor of “CBS4 This Morning” and “CBS4 News at Noon” will act as Master of Ceremonies at this year’s Independence Day celebration.

When: Thursday, July 4th. Grounds open at 5 p.m., live concert at 7 p.m. and fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Where: Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue.

Parking: The City will offer free parking and continuous shuttle service throughout the evening to and from the Biltmore Hotel. Shuttle service begins at 5 p.m. from the following locations. Please note: The last shuttle will depart for the fireworks at 8:30 p.m. Click on each location below for more information:

Tour of the Gables 5k 2013

On Saturday May 25, 2013 the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce will host the 18th annual Baptist Health Tour of the Gables 5k. The race will start at 7:30 a.m. at Merrick Park and will take runners on a scenic tour of Coral Gables.

Medals will be awarded to the top three racers in each age group. There will be complimentary parking available at the Andalusia Parking Garage, west of LeJeune Road. The cost for participating is $30 for pre-registration and $35 on the day of the event for adults; and $20 for pre-registration and $25 on the day of the event for runners under 18 years of age. Spring Celebration

On Saturday March 30, 2013 Coral Gables will be celebrating spring with its first-ever helicopter egg drop. Thousands of colorful, plastic eggs will be dropped by helicopter onto the Youth Center field as children watch from the perimeter. At 10 am there will be simultaneous egg hunts at five parks in the City, but the Youth Center is the only one featuring a helicopter egg drop. Immediately following the egg hunts, residents can enjoy a free concert, and carnival games and rides.

Participating parks are:
•War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Drive
•Jaycee Park, 1230 Hardee Road
•Phillips Park, 90 Menores Avenue
•Salvadore Park, 1120 Andalusia Avenue
•Sunrise Harbor Park, 25 Sunrise Avenue

Gifford Lane Art Stroll

This Sunday March 3, 2013 is the Gifford Lane Art Stroll at Coconut Grove. The festivities are from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Gifford Lane between Day and Oak. There will be food, drinks, family activities,  live music and will feature over 60 Artists.

A portion of the artist sales proceeds will be donated to: St. Alban’s Child Enrichment Center & St. Stephen’s AIDS Ministry.
