Waiting for an Email? Here’s what to expect
There’s only a 10% likelihood you’ll get a response to an email after two days.
By studying more than 2 million users, exchanging 16 billion emails over the course of several months, researchers at the University of Southern California found some pretty interesting patterns.
Here are some of the study’s findings:
- About 50% of replies are sent in fewer than 60 minutes.
- Teenagers reply in 13 minutes or less.
- Individuals between 20 and 35, take an average of 16 minutes to respond.
- Adults 35-40 respond in about 24 minutes.
- Adults 50+ take an average of 47 minutes to reply
All groups responded faster to emails received Monday through Friday during work hours, and replies were shorter when the email was sent during the weekend.
