Before You Put Your Home On The Market

April 27th, 2015 Written By Carol Pawley

minimalism

Neatness and order make a powerful difference when it comes to selling your property.  Consider this checklist of simple to-do’s before welcoming the first potential buyer into your home.

1. Look Up and Around-   Clean gutters, cut lawn and trim bushes.  Detach from planters and plants that are not in good condition.  (What doesn’t add to your home’s attractiveness shouldn’t be visible.)

2. Look Down – It’s a good idea to pressure clean the exterior floor and replace outdoor mats.

3. First Impression – Prospective buyers will be greeted by your front door, make sure it is spotless. If you have shutters or canopies, get them cleaned and make any necessary repairs, otherwise remove them.

4. Warm Scent – Your home should smell like fresh baked cookies or  your favorite homemade dessert.

5. Color Overload – Walls and decor should be kept as neutral as possible. Tone down individual preferences and consider going from prints to solids when it comes to bedding, even in a child’s bedroom.

6. Closets, cabinets, and garage – Discard, give away, or store what you have not used in the last 6 months.  Buy containers, baskets, organizing gadgets and organize, organize, organize.

7. Kitchen – Keep oven, refrigerator,  sink and any appliance that will be included in the purchase, clean at all times.   Maintain counters neat by storing most items-including small appliances- inside cabinets.

8. Bathrooms – Store personal items and keep toilette seats covered at all times. Avoid floor mats,  keep tolettries and cleaning items out of sight.

9. Pool and Patio – Wipe down furniture, discard plants and items that are not in good condition, including patio furniture, BBQ grills, and pool cleaning equipment.

10. Music – Set up speakers to play soothing music throughout the house and pool area.

Make it easy for buyers to imagine living in your home by embracing minimalism, a style characterized by spareness and simplicity.

Added Benefit: Getting your home “Buyer-ready” will make moving to your new home a lot easier!
